Vietnam Joins Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore and Japan Lead Tourism Growth at Arabian Travel Market 2026 as GCC Outbound Travel Reaches New Heights

As Arabian Travel Market 2026 approaches, Vietnam is stepping into the spotlight alongside Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, and Japan, marking a new era of Asia-Pacific growth at the event. With outbound travel from the Gulf reaching unprecedented levels, these countries are strategically positioning themselves to attract high-spending GCC travellers. As air connectivity improves and tailored travel experiences gain traction, the demand for Asia’s diverse destinations continues to soar, highlighting the region’s growing influence in shaping global tourism trends.

Participation from Asia-Pacific exhibitors has climbed at a compound annual growth rate of 13.95 percent between 2024 and 2026. This is not a short-term spike. It reflects a calculated, long-term investment in the Middle East market by tourism boards, hotel groups, airlines, and destination marketing organisations across Asia.

The reason is clear. Travellers from the UAE and wider GCC are reshaping international tourism demand. Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, Vietnam, and Japan continue to dominate booking trends among Gulf residents. These destinations blend luxury retail, culinary depth, beach escapes, wellness retreats, and vibrant city life—an attractive combination for families, couples, and high-spending leisure travellers.

Connectivity has accelerated the movement. Forecasts show Southeast Asia contributing significantly to a projected 5.9 percent rise in Middle East passenger traffic in 2025. Airlines are responding with expanded schedules, stronger hub connections, and competitive fare structures. Direct routes between Gulf cities and Asian capitals are becoming more frequent, shortening travel time and encouraging repeat visits.

Thailand stands at the centre of this surge. By 2030, the country is expected to generate more than ten million additional tourism nights from Middle East visitors compared with today’s figures. Between 2025 and 2030, it is forecast to secure one of the largest shares of outbound leisure nights from the Gulf, excluding intra-Middle East travel. Double-digit annual growth from GCC markets confirms that the relationship is deepening rather than plateauing.

ATM 2026 reflects this momentum in its exhibitor line-up. Tourism authorities from Thailand, Hong Kong, Cambodia, Sri Lanka, Korea, Indonesia, Brunei, and the Maldives are confirmed participants. Their presence underscores how Asia-Pacific is positioning itself as a strategic partner for Gulf outbound growth.

Hospitality brands are moving in tandem. Properties from Malaysia, Singapore, Guangzhou, the Maldives, Japan, and Indonesia are increasing their visibility in Dubai. Many are tailoring offerings to suit Gulf preferences, from family-friendly villas and private island resorts to halal dining options and personalised concierge services. Luxury remains a central theme, but experiential travel—cultural immersion, heritage exploration, and wellness tourism—is gaining equal importance.

Spending patterns justify this focus. GCC travellers are widely regarded as some of the world’s highest-value tourists. In Asia, their expenditure can exceed the global average by more than eleven times. This financial strength influences destination planning, from retail partnerships and premium transport services to hotel design and multilingual guest support.

Economic ties are reinforcing the tourism corridor. Trade between Asia and the Gulf is projected to reach 802 billion US dollars by 2030, with Asia expected to become the Gulf’s largest trading partner by 2028. As commercial activity intensifies, business travel, exhibitions, and corporate events expand alongside leisure tourism. The relationship is becoming multi-layered, extending beyond holidays into investment, education, and enterprise.

Recognising the scale of this transformation, ATM 2026 is dedicating focused discussion to the Asia–GCC travel corridor. A Global Stage session titled “Asia–GCC Corridor: The Next Great Growth Engine” will examine how high-spending Gulf travellers are fuelling one of the fastest-growing travel partnerships worldwide. Industry leaders are expected to explore market alignment, air access strategy, and sustainable growth models.

The event itself is evolving to match these changes. Programmes across the Global Stage, Future Stage, and Experience Stage will address travel technology, luxury innovation, and cross-regional collaboration. Dedicated areas such as the Ultra Luxury Lounge, IBTM at ATM, and an expanded Travel Tech showcase across two halls highlight the industry’s pivot toward innovation-driven growth.

Arabian Travel Market has always served as a temperature check for global tourism. In 2026, it becomes a stage where Asia-Pacific’s rising influence is clearly visible. The expansion of Asian exhibitors signals long-term commitment rather than promotional presence. Destinations are investing in relationships, partnerships, and sustained brand positioning in the Gulf.

As visa processes streamline, aviation capacity increases, and consumer preferences diversify, the Asia–Middle East corridor is emerging as one of the most dynamic routes in international tourism. The exhibition halls in Dubai will capture that shift in real time.

ATM 2026 is not simply an event on the travel calendar. It is a reflection of how global tourism power is recalibrating. The Gulf’s outbound strength and Asia-Pacific’s destination diversity are converging, creating a corridor defined by growth, connectivity, and sustained opportunity.
