Oman Air Connects Muscat To Tashkent In Just About Four Hours, Opening Doors To Central Asia

Oman Air will start its new direct flight service between Tashkent and Muscat which will provide passengers with a continuous four hour flight service that operates twice each week starting from 1 June 2026. The new service, announced as part of the carrier’s expanding international network, is designed to enhance air connectivity between the Sultanate of Oman and Central Asia while supporting both countries’ tourism and trade ambitions.

Operating twice weekly, the route will offer a non‑stop link from Muscat International Airport, Oman Air’s hub, to Tashkent, one of Central Asia’s largest and fastest‑growing urban centres. It is the eighth international destination unveiled by the airline since December, underlining a strategy that blends commercial sustainability with targeted expansion into high‑potential markets.

Strengthening aviation and tourism networks

Oman Air’s leadership has indicated that the Tashkent route is intended to support a commercially sustainable network, balancing direct point‑to‑point demand with increased connectivity across its Muscat hub. Central Asia has been described by the airline as a region of rising relevance for both travel and trade, with the new service positioned as a gateway for inbound tourism to Oman and outbound tourism to Uzbekistan and beyond.

By tapping into Muscat’s role as a connecting hub, the Tashkent flights are expected to feed traffic to and from Oman Air’s wider network across the GCC, the Middle East, India, Europe and selected African and Asian destinations. This expanded reach will not only make it easier for Uzbek travellers to access key leisure markets such as Salalah and Musandam, but also provide Omani and GCC passengers with a direct entry point into Central Asia’s emerging tourism circuit.

Tourism opportunities: Tashkent on the Silk Road

Tashkent is recognised as one of Central Asia’s largest cities and an emerging tourism destination known for its unique blend of modern architecture, Soviet‑era heritage and Islamic culture. For travellers from Oman and the wider GCC, the direct Oman Air connection positions the city as a convenient long‑weekend or extended‑stay getaway along the historic Silk Road.

Key tourist attractions in Tashkent include:

Hazrati Imam (Khast Imam) complex – A spiritual and architectural centre housing historic mosques, madrasas and religious relics, giving visitors insight into the region’s Islamic heritage.

Chorsu Bazaar – One of Central Asia’s most colourful markets, where tourists can experience local life, crafts and cuisine under its iconic turquoise dome.

Amir Timur Square – A landmark public space celebrating the legacy of Timur, surrounded by notable buildings and ideal as an introduction to the city’s historical narrative.

Tashkent Metro stations – Often described as underground art galleries, the ornately decorated stations are a highlight for visitors interested in design, photography and Soviet‑era aesthetics.

State Museum of History of Uzbekistan – Important for travellers keen to understand the country’s past, from ancient civilisations to modern independence.

Broadway Alley and city parks – Lined with cafes, street artists and entertainment, these areas appeal to leisure visitors seeking relaxed, family‑friendly urban experiences.

By highlighting such attractions in its marketing and trade partnerships, Oman Air is well‑placed to package Tashkent as a distinctive city‑break and cultural‑tourism destination for Omani residents, GCC expatriates and connecting passengers.

Boosting bilateral trade and cultural exchange

Beyond leisure, the Muscat–Tashkent route is expected to facilitate stronger business ties, particularly in sectors such as energy, logistics, food imports, education and religious tourism. Shorter travel times and improved schedule reliability are likely to support trade delegations, investment missions and participation in conferences and exhibitions across both capitals.

The route also revives a modern link along the historic Silk Road, encouraging cultural exchanges through student mobility, heritage tourism and collaborative events between museums, universities and tourism boards. With Oman positioning itself as a premium yet authentic destination, the airline’s network strategy aligns closely with national tourism plans aimed at attracting high‑value visitors from new source markets, including Uzbekistan and neighbouring Central Asian states.

Bottom Line

The newly established route connects people from different countries directly to the destination. The people of Tashkent and Muscat view the direct service as more than a new route because it provides them with easier access to visit family and friends. The two regions share a historical connection through trade routes which have existed for centuries. The Oman Air route will begin passenger service in June 2026 according to the airline’s plans for their upcoming flight route. The airlines and the tourism industry will develop special programs that will bring visitors to both countries through their joint marketing efforts and cultural activities.
