Alexandria, Egypt, is moving forward with the modernisation of its historic Raml Tram, a transport line that runs across the Mediterranean coastal city and connects several major districts, landmarks and travel hubs. The project, which spans 13.2 kilometres and includes 24 stations, aims to upgrade the tram network while maintaining the historic identity of one of Alexandria’s most recognizable transport systems.

A total of 206 vehicles have been deployed across three major corridors to provide replacement transport services for passengers affected by the temporary tram closure.

These vehicles operate at peak intervals of approximately three to five minutes, ensuring continuous mobility for commuters and travelers moving across the city.

The Raml Tram service experienced temporary suspension between Victoria and Mostafa Kamel stations from February 1 to February 10, 2026, to evaluate the efficiency of alternative services.

A partial suspension began on February 11, followed by a full suspension scheduled from April 1 to allow completion of rehabilitation works.
