Guam’s Lunar New Year Festivities Attract Over Eight Hundred Visitors from Taiwan, Showcasing the Island’s Hospitality and Thriving Tourism Market

The Guam Visitors Bureau (GVB) is thrilled to announce the arrival of more than 850 visitors from Taipei, Taiwan, who have chosen the picturesque island of Guam to celebrate the Lunar New Year. This notable surge in tourism signals a strong start to the holiday season, reinforcing Guam’s position as a top travel destination in the Pacific region.

The welcoming festivities kicked off on Saturday, February 14, as the first of several full-capacity flights landed at the A.B. Won Pat International Airport. Both STARLUX Airlines and United Airlines operated these flights, marking the beginning of a highly anticipated arrival of holidaymakers. To ensure a memorable reception, the GVB, in partnership with the Guam International Airport Authority (GIAA) and the Aircraft Rescue Fire Fighters (ARFF) team, offered an immersive welcome for the passengers. As they deplaned, visitors were greeted with lively CHamoru music, traditional Guam souvenirs, and even a special appearance by “Kika,” the island’s iconic Ko’ko’ Bird, adding a unique touch to the festivities.

This remarkable influx of travelers was made possible through the collaborative efforts of several Taiwanese travel agencies, including Lion Travel, Spunk Tour, and Sunny World, who worked closely with STARLUX Airlines. Phoenix Tour, meanwhile, marketed and sold extensive holiday packages through United Airlines’ direct flight services. The eight chartered flights, each sold out, are a testament to the growing demand from Taiwan for an accessible and exciting holiday experience in Guam.

These chartered operations are not just a seasonal success; they also highlight the potential for long-term growth in the Taiwanese market, especially when strategically timed with major holidays like the Lunar New Year. The impressive seat sales serve as a clear indication of the Taiwanese market’s enthusiasm for Guam, which has become a highly sought-after destination in recent years.

To enhance the visitor experience and encourage support for local businesses, the GVB offered various incentives throughout the travelers’ 4-5 day stay. These included dinner shows and meal discounts, giving guests a taste of Guam’s vibrant culinary scene and unique cultural offerings. The GVB’s efforts to enhance the visitor experience are aimed at fostering both short-term tourism success and long-term loyalty to the island.

“GVB is honored to host these travelers for the Year of the Horse celebrations and views this holiday period as a prime opportunity to showcase Guam’s distinctive hospitality while supporting local businesses,” said GVB President & CEO Régine Biscoe Lee.  “By continuing to actively support both direct flight paths and flexible charter options, GVB remains dedicated to nurturing the deep-rooted, mutually beneficial relationship that exists between Taiwan and Guam for the benefit of both destinations.”

The success of this initiative sets the stage for more positive developments in Guam’s tourism sector. With Taiwan continuing to show interest in the island as a vacation destination, the future looks bright for Guam, particularly as it builds upon its strategic connections to key Asian markets. As the island moves forward, the GVB remains focused on maintaining its commitment to tourism growth while ensuring that Guam remains a top choice for travelers in the Pacific.

This influx of Taiwanese visitors comes as a vital boost to the local economy, supporting hotels, restaurants, and tourism-related businesses, all of which contribute to the island’s vibrant hospitality sector. By cultivating relationships with Taiwanese travel agencies and airlines, GVB continues to pave the way for more tourists to explore Guam’s rich cultural heritage, stunning landscapes, and welcoming community.

In conclusion, Guam’s Lunar New Year celebration marks a milestone for both the island and its Taiwanese visitors, reinforcing the island’s status as a prime Pacific destination. With continued efforts to attract international tourists, especially during key holiday periods, the future of Guam’s tourism looks promising, further cementing its position on the global travel map.
