Oman Sees Surge in International Tourist Arrivals, Driving Tourism Growth, Everything You Need to Know

Oman ranked as having had an excellent performance in the tourism industry in the year 2025, where the revenues of the country’s 3 to 5-star hotels were impressive at the end of the year, reaching as high as $773.2 million (RO 297.3 million). There was also substantial improvement in the number of hotel guests, as significant improvements were recorded, showing the country’s tourism sector to be doing well. Notably, the tourism sector recorded notable improvements in the revenues, which also showed an increase of 22.2% compared to what had been recorded the previous year, 2024.

Revenue Growth Driven by Increased Hotel Demand

The growth in hotel revenues can be attributed to a combination of factors, primarily the increased number of visitors staying in high-end hotels across the country. The 3 to 5-star hotel category, which represents the luxury segment of Oman’s hospitality market, saw a substantial rise in demand. This increase in visitors has contributed directly to the growth in hotel revenues, providing a strong indication of Oman’s appeal to affluent tourists.

By December 2025, hotel occupancy rates in this category had risen to 56.7%, up from 49.9% in 2024. This increase in occupancy demonstrates that Oman’s luxury accommodations are continuing to draw more guests, which directly boosts overall revenues. The rise in occupancy is particularly important as it reflects the growing popularity of Oman as a regional and international destination, offering both luxury experiences and diverse cultural attractions.

Visitor Growth: A Positive Trend for Oman’s Tourism Sector

In addition to increased revenues, Oman saw a 10.8% year-on-year increase in the number of guests at 3 to 5-star hotels. By the end of December 2025, a total of 2,376,955 guests had stayed in luxury hotels across the country, up from the previous year. This growth is indicative of a broader trend of rising tourist arrivals to Oman, a country known for its stunning landscapes, rich culture, and historical sites.

This uptick in guests was driven by both domestic and international tourism. The number of Omani guests grew by 6.6%, reaching 857,481, suggesting a continued strong demand for luxury accommodations among local residents. Additionally, Oman saw a rise in the number of visitors from other GCC countries, with guest numbers increasing by 7.2% to 212,798. This suggests that Oman remains a favored destination for travelers within the GCC, due to its proximity, cultural ties, and high-end hospitality offerings.

Increased International Tourist Arrivals

The international market showed robust growth in 2025 as well. Guests from the Asian continent recorded an 11% increase, reaching a total of 345,526. This growth can be attributed to the increasing importance of Oman as a travel hub for tourists from across Asia, particularly those seeking a blend of luxury experiences and cultural exploration.

Visitors from Europe also contributed significantly to the growth in Omani hotel revenues. The number of European guests rose by 22.3% to 659,571, reflecting Oman’s growing reputation as a desirable destination for tourists from Western countries. This surge may be linked to the country’s positioning as an alternative to more crowded regional destinations, as well as its appeal for travelers seeking adventure tourism and upscale cultural experiences.

North American and Oceania Tourists Show Strong Growth

Tourists from North America also contributed to the increase in hotel revenues, with the number of American guests growing by an impressive 28.6%, reaching 79,420 by the end of 2025. This highlights Oman’s appeal to high-net-worth travelers from the United States and Canada, who are increasingly seeking unique, luxurious travel experiences in the Middle East.

Guests from Oceania also demonstrated a strong affinity for Oman’s offerings, with a 25.2% increase in visitors, totaling 41,386 by the end of the year. This growth reflects the broader trend of increased long-haul travel to the region, with Oceania-based tourists opting for destinations that provide both relaxation and adventure in equal measure.

Decline in Guests from Other Arab Countries

While Oman saw strong growth from various international markets, the number of guests from other Arab countries did experience a slight decrease. The number of guests from Arab nations outside of the GCC dropped by 1.6%, totaling 101,377 by the end of 2025. This decline may be due to various factors, including changing travel preferences, regional political dynamics, or competition from other popular destinations in the Middle East and North Africa.

Oman’s Growing Appeal as a Regional and Global Destination

The strong growth in Oman’s hotel revenues and the rise in guest numbers across various demographics are clear indicators that the country’s tourism sector continues to thrive. The growth in the 3 to 5-star hotel category reflects an increasing demand for luxury travel experiences, with visitors from around the world flocking to Oman’s world-class accommodations.

Oman’s tourism infrastructure has continued to evolve, with new developments in hospitality, cultural tourism, and adventure tourism. The country is known for its rich history, stunning natural landscapes, and welcoming atmosphere, which contribute to its appeal as a luxury travel destination.

Additionally, Oman’s strategic location as a gateway to the Middle East and Asia allows it to tap into both regional and international markets. The government’s efforts to diversify the economy and promote tourism as a key pillar of growth are paying off, with increasing numbers of international tourists visiting the country each year.

The Road Ahead for Oman’s Tourism Industry

Looking ahead, Oman’s hospitality industry is well-positioned for continued growth. With increased investment in the luxury travel sector and a commitment to enhancing the visitor experience, Oman is poised to become one of the leading destinations for high-end tourism in the region.
