Each edition of Chitrashaala is meticulously curated to ensure that the setting—this year’s breathtaking location in Mukteshwar—plays an integral role in sparking creativity and inspiration among participants.

A Global Gathering of Artistic Minds

For Chitrashaala 2026, 53 artists will gather at Mukteshwar, including 24 Indian and 29 international artists. The diversity of participants this year will be particularly striking, with artists coming from countries including Italy, Romania, Thailand, Spain, Japan, Egypt, Mauritius, Poland, and Sri Lanka. Indian artists from cities like Kolkata, Baroda, Pune, Delhi, Mumbai, and Rajasthan will also showcase their work, representing a rich variety of regional artistic traditions and modern interpretations.

Ashish Vohra, Founder & CEO of jüSTa Hotels & Resorts, commented on the residency’s vision: “At jüSTa, we view art as central to our interpretation of hospitality. Hosting Chitrashaala at Mukteshwar reaffirms our belief that nature and art are deeply connected. The serene surroundings of the Himalayas create a perfect environment for artists to slow down, reflect, and produce work that is deeply personal yet speaks to universal themes.”

Immersed in the Beauty of Mukteshwar

Set at an elevation of 7,500 feet above sea level, jüSTa Mukteshwar Retreat & Spa offers an unrivaled backdrop for the artistic process. With its panoramic views of the majestic Himalayan peaks and surrounding forests, the retreat is an oasis of tranquility, allowing artists to disconnect from the noise of everyday life and connect more deeply with both their inner selves and their surroundings.

The breathtaking landscape of Mukteshwar offers more than just a beautiful view—it is a catalyst for creativity. The natural environment encourages introspection and deep reflection, allowing artists the space to experiment, push boundaries, and create works that reflect both their personal experiences and the universal beauty of the world around them. Chitrashaala 2026 will offer participants the opportunity to step away from the ordinary and immerse themselves in an inspiring, nature-infused creative space.

Artistic Collaboration and Curatorial Vision

The setting of Mukteshwar will undoubtedly inspire meaningful artistic exchanges and collaboration. It’s an exciting moment to witness the creation of powerful works that explore new dimensions of art and culture.”

This year, Chitrashaala will place a special emphasis on the contributions of female artists. Avijit Mukherjee, Coordinator of the residency, pointed out, “A significant portion of this year’s artists are women, and their work will provide fresh insights and perspectives. The natural beauty of Mukteshwar will certainly fuel their creative energies, leading to thought-provoking and impactful artistic expressions.”
