Spring Travel Surges In Japan, South Korea, And China: Klook Reveals the Top Trends

Klook recently published its 2026 Spring Readiness Index. This report analyzes how travelers in Asia prepare for their spring journeys and how their plans have been influenced by COVID. The Index focuses on travelers around Asia discovering Japan, South Korea, and China, using these countries for spring multi-destination trips and other travel spots to increase their travel experiences. The report also focuses on non-touristy cultural and sightseeing activities and shows travelers how to plan their trips for maximum flexibility.

Klook’s report shows how travel behavior has shifted and what to expect for spring 2026. With a growing number of travelers, Klook’s report outlines the prioritization of modern travel and its flexibility. More than 900 travelers were surveyed from Singapore, Malaysia, the Philippines, Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam, Hong Kong, Taiwan, and India. The results confirmed that Japan, South Korea, and China will be the top spring travel destinations for 2026.

Japan Is The Main Spring Travel Destination Again

Japan has been a top choice for spring travelers for a long time now. This is because people want to see the cherry blossoms before they fully bloom. For Spring Readiness Index, 78% of people chose Japan as the absolute number one spring travel destination, showing that they want to capture the beauty of the cherry blossoms before they next spring.

Besides the cherry blossoms, there is also a notable rise in interest for travel to Fukuoka, Nagoya, and Hiroshima, according to Klook data. These smaller cities can offer travelers a variety of experiences compared to the larger, more touristy cities like Tokyo and Kyoto. More travelers are also starting to move away from single-destination trips to multi-destination itineraries.

Traveling in Spring: Where in South Korea?

Spring travel has South Korea’s landscape blooming with new experiences. South Korea saw 52% of travelers selecting South Korea as their favorite travel destination. South Korea’s cherry blossoms also caught travelers’ eyes. But, like Japan, South Korea boasts an array of hidden travel destinations. Travelers looking for alternative destinations to Seoul have chosen Gyeonggi-do, Gangwon-do, and Gyeongju for their travel destinations. These destinations offer an abundance of activities for travelers to explore.

To meet travel demands, Klook has made travel experiences with local merchants to offer new travel experiences to their customers. One experience could be a travel experience to Everland, South Korea’s largest theme park. Visitors to Everland can now travel to areas of the park, which are less crowded, and have cherry blossom viewing areas and places like the secret garden. Modern travelers have shown interest in experiences and activities that are unlike the common travel activities people do. Travelers are moving towards travel experiences that are more off the beaten path, and travel experiences are allowing them to do this.

Mainland China: A Spring Travel Destination

China has a springtime travel destination on the rise from the past year, getting the attention of 42% of travelers because of its versatile geography and rich cultural history. China is not typically seen as a destination for cherry blossom tourism when compared to its more popular neighbors. However, with the growing international appeal of springtime tourism, as well as the opportunities for multi-city travel to Qingyuan, Yinchuan, and Lijiang, China is an attractive spring travel destination. Flexible travel itineraries have allowed people to travel to less popular locations as well as major cities. Travelers can admire China’s ancient history and stunning Spring landscapes.

Understanding Traveler Sentiments for Spring 2026

Klook’s Spring Readiness Index indicates renewed traveller sentiment toward flexible travel planning. Shorter booking times can be attributed to travellers’ planning flexibility and desire to stay in tune with seasonal changes and blooms.

Travel congestion is common in peak season travel, but travellers remain confident in their ability to handle such challenges. The most common traveller concerns were long waits to enter attractions (47%) and missing peak seasonal events, such as cherry blossoms (41%). Despite traveller concerns, many remain flexible and optimistic in their planning to avoid missing desired seasonal events.

Traveling in Spring with Klook

Springtime travel brings new challenges, and Klook has made new travel solutions to assist with these challenges. For example, they’ve started the Bloom Back Guarantee, which is a way to calm travelers’ worries about missing the cherry blossoms in Japan and South Korea. Customers can receive a 30% refund if the cherry blossoms don’t bloom on schedule during cherry blossom tours.

Klook has introduced a new role in their company to assist with spring traveling, Chief Spring Officer. After an overwhelming amount of interest, Klook has expanded this role to create a whole council of 25 Chief Spring Officers. These Chief Spring Officers will provide on-the-ground, live information and give recommendations about travel for the spring season. From March 20 to April 10, 2026, they will be on the ground in Japan, South Korea, and Mainland China.

Multi-Destination Travel Continues

Travelers are expanding their itineraries and visiting multiple destinations. An encouraging sign from the Spring Readiness Index is the increase in multi-destination bookings. 66% of travelers plan to take spring travels touching multiple destinations. Instead of major cities being their final destination for their travels. Travelers are looking for remote and up-and-coming destinations. They want Ultimate Travels.

A shift in travel preference is the increasing travel interest in cities such as Fukuoka, Gyeonggi-do, and less famous tourist destinations like Qingyuan. People want to travel away from the crowded and popular tourist destinations and explore areas where they can be among fewer people.

Conclusion: A New Era of Spring Travel

Spring Travel for 2026 is set out to provide travelers with a unique experience with discovery-focused itineraries for their travel. The Klook Spring Readiness Index suggests that travelers in South Korea, Japan, and Mainland China are getting ready for travel, and seeking a more purposeful and intentional approach to travel, incorporating multi-stop travel, exclusive travel, and bloom guarantees that provide travelers with enriching experiences. Klook is repositioning its Spring Travel to enhance travelers’ experience, allowing greater confidence to travel across Asia.
