Want to Stay at the World’s Best Eco Resort? Find Out Why Arbatax Park is About to Get Even Better!

Falkensteiner Michaeler Tourism Group (FMTG), based in Vienna, has made a significant move in Sardinia by signing an 18-year lease agreement to take on the operational management of the island’s largest resort complex Arbatax Park Resort. Starting in February 2026, this new acquisition will be FMTG’s second property in Sardinia, complementing their existing Falkensteiner Hotel Capo Boi located on the southeastern coast of the island. This expansion marks a key milestone in Falkensteiner’s strategic plan to strengthen its presence in one of Italy’s most sought-after holiday destinations.

Arbatax Park Resort: A Unique Destination in Sardinia

Arbatax Park Resort is located in the picturesque Ogliastra region of Sardinia, which is known for being one of the five Blue Zones around the world where residents live longer lives. Situated in a protected natural park, the resort offers a stunning combination of beauty and tranquillity. The complex covers a vast 60 hectares along the island’s eastern coast, surrounded by lush greenery, clear blue waters, and dramatic cliffs.

The resort offers guests the rare opportunity to experience the island’s beauty while also ensuring that it maintains its commitment to environmental protection and sustainability. Arbatax Park Resort was awarded the title of World’s Best Eco Resort in 2025, reflecting its dedication to responsible tourism and eco-friendly practices. Guests visiting this expansive resort can enjoy a range of natural experiences, from hiking through the park to relaxing on exclusive beaches, all while knowing they are supporting an environmentally conscious tourism model.

Sustainable Development Plans and Investment

FMTG is fully committed to continuing the development of Arbatax Park Resort in a sustainable manner. One of the key elements of their expansion strategy is maintaining the resort’s ecological and cultural sensitivity while improving its facilities and services. The partnership with the Mazzella family, the original owners of the resort, ensures that the resort’s existing sustainability model will be upheld and further expanded.

FMTG has already set in motion a number of exciting development projects to further enhance the resort. Over the next few years, they plan to invest €30 million into the property, gradually modernising and repositioning all 900 rooms at the resort in line with Falkensteiner’s standards of service and luxury. The first phase of renovations is set to complete ahead of the resort’s reopening in May 2026, with more than 500 rooms being renovated to provide guests with high-quality, comfortable accommodations while retaining the unique charm of the resort’s setting.

Rebranding and Modernising the Resort’s Hotels

FMTG’s future plans for Arbatax Park Resort go beyond simple renovations. In 2027, four of the resort’s existing hotels Ville del Parco, Telis, Cottage, and Dune will be integrated into a new 620-room structure. The new facility will be rebranded as Club Funimation by Falkensteiner, designed to cater specifically to families and active guests looking for a dynamic holiday experience. By combining these hotels into a single structure, FMTG aims to create a more efficient and modern space for families, offering an abundance of amenities, activities, and entertainment for guests of all ages.

The transformation does not stop there. The Borgo Cala Moresca, an area within the resort, will also undergo a complete restyling. By 2028, this area will be rebranded as a premium Falkensteiner hotel with approximately 250 rooms designed in the style of an authentic Sardinian village. Guests will experience winding streets, charming squares, and traditional stone houses, giving them a taste of local Sardinian architecture and culture. This new hotel will combine modern luxury with an authentic experience, blending seamlessly into the surrounding natural environment.

Additionally, a new boutique hotel, Monte Turri, is set to open for adults-only guests. This 17-suite property will offer a more intimate, relaxing atmosphere, ideal for couples or those seeking a peaceful retreat away from the hustle and bustle of family-centric areas.

Strengthening the Family and Club Tourism Market

With this second property in Sardinia, FMTG is poised to significantly reinforce its position in the family and club tourism market. Otmar Michaeler, CEO of FMTG, expressed that this move would help the group strengthen its brand in the Mediterranean region, focusing on delivering memorable holiday experiences for families, active travelers, and those seeking both luxury and sustainability. The integration of the Club Funimation brand will further bolster FMTG’s commitment to delivering family-oriented services and amenities, ensuring that the resort offers something for every type of traveler.

Falkensteiner’s approach focuses on creating high-quality vacation experiences that offer guests both comfort and adventure. This approach has proven successful in their other locations, and with the expansion into Sardinia, they aim to replicate and build upon that success. By combining top-tier service with unique and culturally rich experiences, the resort is poised to attract both international and local visitors alike.

Emphasis on Sustainability and Eco-Friendly Tourism

Sustainability remains at the core of FMTG’s strategy for the future of Arbatax Park Resort. The island of Sardinia is known for its pristine landscapes, and preserving these natural resources is critical. Falkensteiner is committed to ensuring that the development of Arbatax Park Resort aligns with both the island’s environmental goals and the company’s broader commitment to sustainable tourism.

Future projects will continue to focus on eco-friendly infrastructure, from using renewable energy sources to minimizing waste and promoting conservation efforts. The resort’s unique position within a protected natural park also presents a significant opportunity for guests to experience and learn about Sardinia’s local flora and fauna. By emphasizing sustainability, Falkensteiner hopes to position Arbatax Park Resort as a model for responsible tourism in the Mediterranean.

Looking Ahead: A Bright Future for Arbatax Park Resort

As Falkensteiner Michaeler Tourism Group invests heavily in the future of Arbatax Park Resort, it is clear that the resort is set to become one of Sardinia’s top destinations. With an eye toward modernisation, eco-friendly tourism, and a focus on family and luxury experiences, the resort’s growth will not only enhance its offerings but also strengthen Sardinia’s appeal as a Mediterranean hotspot.

The upcoming developments, such as the rebranding of several hotels, the addition of new adult-only accommodations, and continued investment in sustainability, ensure that Arbatax Park Resort will continue to attract a diverse range of visitors from around the world. Falkensteiner’s vision for the resort is set to transform it into a flagship destination that combines luxury, nature, and sustainability—offering an unforgettable experience for years to come.
